Vol. 228 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

9.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent necessity of giving a piped water supply to the people of Ballinascarrow, Roscrib, Cletta, Ballinvoher, Drumnagranshy and Doomeegan, Ballymote, County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not so aware. There are no proposals before my Department for the provision of piped water supplies to the areas mentioned by the Deputy.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government the date on which his Department received the preliminary report from Kerry County Council in connection with the proposed piped water scheme for the Castlemaine district, County Kerry; and the cause of the delay in giving the necessary approval.

The preliminary report for this scheme was received in my Department on 17th December, 1965. This scheme is still under consideration having regard to the fact that it is not included in the council's priority list.

It is like the Common Market: we shall wait until 1970 before it is finished.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government the date on which his Department received the contract documents from Kerry County Council in connection with the proposed piped water scheme for Inch district, Annascaul, County Kerry; and the cause of the delay in giving the necessary approval.

Contract documents for the Inch regional water supply scheme were received in my Department on 19th July, 1966. This scheme is still under consideration having regard to the fact that it is listed as No. 10 in the Council's priority list.

Is the Minister aware it has cost County Kerry £200,000, at the request of the Minister's predecessor, and yet we cannot get approval after two years?

They will all be reached eventually. They cannot all be done together. This is tenth in the priority list.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position of the proposal submitted to his Department by Kerry County Council in connection with the provision of a new piped water scheme for the Ardfert district, Tralee, County Kerry.

As I indicated in replies to questions on 9th February and 8th March last, revised preliminary proposals for this scheme are under consideration in my Department.

I ask the Minister to give this special consideration because last summer tourists staying in houses in the locality had to go into Tralee to wash because of lack of amenities locally.

That is not a question.
