Vol. 228 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry School.

19.

asked the Minister for Education the date on which the site was purchased for the erection of the new school at Currans, Farranfore, County Kerry; if he is aware that the parents of the children there have decided to keep them from school as a protest against the existing condition of the old school and the proposed amalgamation with another school some miles away; and if it is intended to erect a new school at Currans.

Mr. O'Malley

My information is that a site has not been purchased for a new school at Currans, County Kerry. I am aware that the parents of children attending Currans national school have withdrawn their children from the school and I have arranged that a senior inspector of my Department and the district architect of the Commissioners of Public Works will attend a meeting of the parents this evening with a view to securing agreement for an arrangement which will be in the best educational interests of the children. Pending the outcome of this meeting, I would prefer not to make any pronouncement in the matter.
