Vol. 228 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tariff Protection on Tyres.

22.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the possibility of further redundancy at the works of the Irish Dunlop Company Limited in Cork, he will state whether discussions on the current position of tariff protection on tyres are taking place between the British Board of Trade and his Department; and if he is in a position to make a statement on the progress of such discussions.

I would refer the Deputy to the recent announcement that quota restrictions have been imposed on imports of motor tyres manufactured in the United Kingdom as from 27th May and that the minimum specific duty on tyres manufactured in countries other than the United Kingdom has been increased as from the same date.
