Vol. 228 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Trading Practices.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the disquiet engendered among electrical traders in the country at the trading practices engaged in by the ESB in monopolising the sale of certain household appliances to which the electrical traders themselves have no access; and if he will take steps to ensure that all electrical traders enjoy equal competitive rights.

I am aware that the ESB market their "own brand" appliances manufactured exclusively for them to their own specification.

This is a normal trading practice which does not give the Board a monopoly or infringe the competitive rights of other electrical traders.
