Vol. 229 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subsidy on Sales of Old Ewes.

11.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will arrange for a subsidy of 20/- on the sales of old ewes so as to have them cleared from the sheep flocks and have the breeding upgraded.

As I indicated in reply to a question by Deputy Meaney on 16th May, I intend to make changes in the Mountain Sheep Subsidy Schemes in consultation with the National Agricultural Council. These will be announced as soon as practicable.

Could the Minister state when these changes will be announced?

I should hope in the second week in July.

After the elections?

Yes, unfortunately, after the elections. I am sorry it is not before the elections.

And does the Minister expect that the NAC will be in existence at that time?

I can assure the Deputy it will be.
