Vol. 229 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Housing Grant.

67.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange for immediate payment of the grant in respect of a new house to a person (name supplied) in County Cavan; and why the first moiety has not been paid though the applicant has been in occupation of the house for some months.

An instalment of the grant allocated in this case has been paid. The public utility society acting on behalf of the occupant has been informed of certain additional works which require to be carried out before the balance of the grant can be paid.

(Cavan): Could the Minister say when the first instalment was paid?

As far as I know, it was about February, 1967.

(Cavan): My information is that it has not been paid. I would like the Minister, if he can, to give the exact date?

Why ask the question if you already know?

14th June.

(Cavan): The Minister for Agriculture has enough on his plate without intervening in Local Government matters.

That is a typical solicitor's remark.

14th June.

In other words, since the question was put down.

Let the Minister for Agriculture put that in his dirty pipe and smoke it.

He has too much in it.

(Cavan): Could the Minister explain the delay in paying this grant, in view of the fact that the roof has been on the house for about six months and that people are living in it for about three months?

There is nobody living in it at the present time.

It is due in the main to the fact that detailed specifications of the proposed work were not in.

(Cavan): Nonsense: the roof is on the house.

There was a technical hitch at the transmitter.

There was a delay in the submission of detailed specifications.

(Cavan): Is the Minister not aware that there is wholesale delay of this type all over the country?

I cannot help it if Deputy Fitzpatrick's clients do not get their work done efficiently.

What is the Minister doing with the Road Fund?

(Cavan): Ignorant personal remarks will not get the Minister any place.

If they were submitted at the correct time, it would be a lot smoother.
