Vol. 229 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of Houses.

69.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each of the years 1965-66 and 1966-67 the number of new houses completed by (a) local authorities and (b) private enterprise (i) with the help of grants and (ii) without the help of grants.

The estimated total number of new houses provided during the year ended 31st March, 1966, was 11,255, including 2,989 local authority houses. The corresponding total for the year ended the 31st March, 1967, was 10,984, including 4,079 local authority houses.

The totals include 7,427 and 6,183 houses for which grants were fully paid by my Department in the years 1965-66 and 1966-67, respectively, and about 400 houses estimated to have been provided annually without the aid of grants or by means of conversions of existing dwellings.
