Vol. 229 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Housing Grants.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if in view of the long delays in the payment of housing grants he will consider a more effective form of administration to expedite such payments.

There are no unavoidable delays in the payment of housing grants and therefore there is no necessity to consider another form of administration.

Will the Minister say what he considers is a reasonable time for the payment of a housing grant?

It may take as long as four to five weeks——

——to have the inspection carried out and it may take a further two weeks before the payable order is issued.

That is a lot of nonsense.

If the Minister is told that it takes from four to five months, will he think it worth his while to do something about it?

It does not.

He does not know.

He misread "months" as "weeks".
