Vol. 229 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foras Forbartha: UN Personnel.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number and rank of persons from the United Nations Organisation who have been engaged on behalf of An Foras Forbartha since its inception; the number of such persons who have terminated their engagement before the expiration of their periods of appointment; the reasons for such termination; and the money (a) received from, (b) owing to and (c) repaid to the United Nations Organisation in respect of personnel and projects.

Eleven individual experts and one consultant firm were engaged by the United Nations to work with An Foras Forbartha in the following capacities:—

Regional Planning (Chief Adviser).

Modular Co-Ordination (2).

Urban Renewal Economics.

Urban Design.

Amenity Planning (2).

Building Materials.

Construction Management.

Road Traffic.

Roads Management and Costing.

Regional Planning (Consultants).

I understand that one appointment will terminate at the appointee's request after three years, and before the full period of appointment has expired. These appointments are handled by the United Nations and I do not know the reasons for this decision. Three experts had their appointments extended. Four others who wished to have their appointments extended could not be accommodated within the agreed schedule of expert services provided by the United Nations. No money was received from the United Nations in respect of personnel and projects. £2,962 is due to be paid to the United Nations by 1st January, 1969, in respect of Irish contributions to local United Nations expenses. No repayment of United Nations expenditure has been made.
