Vol. 229 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soundproofing of Kiosks.

3.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has any plans to make telephone kiosks soundproof, as it is very often impossible to hold a telephone conversation in them owing to passing traffic.

The soundproofing of the present design is considered satisfactory but any practicable means of improving it that presents itself will be carefully considered.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary consider the soundproofing good? Surely he cannot consider it good. It is impossible for anybody, at the present time anyway, to telephone when there is traffic passing.

Steps are being taken to improve the position. The fact is that inside an ordinary house, you have no soundproofing as such. Noise of street traffic is something over which we have no control. All possible steps are being taken to ensure that these kiosks will be soundproofed as soon as possible.
