Vol. 230 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Bridge.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to start work on the erection of Cloonacanna bridge near Swinford, County Mayo.

I understand that certain matters of a technical nature arising out of the examination of tenders received for the execution of this work are at present under consideration by the responsible authority, that is, Mayo Council Council.

Is the Minister aware that people have to travel a distance of five or six miles to get to the small town of Aclare and to Tubbercurry on the way to Swinford and does he not realise that this is a very urgent matter which should be expedited?

I am not so aware, but presumably Mayo County Council were, and that is why they have brought this project to this advanced stage and are now considering the tenders that were received.

That was the old Mayo County Council.

Is the Minister aware that the county engineer was told they had no money?

No; that has nothing to do with it.

It has everything to do with it.

There are technical aspects of the tenders.

Arising out of the reply——

I have called Question No. 17.

I know you have. You called it in a great hurry, too.

The Deputy cannot monopolise Question Time with 12 supplementary questions. I have called No. 17.

And making a very good job of it.

That is a most unfair remark, Sir, a partisan remark. He has not asked more than two supplementary questions on any question.

This is like a hurling match.
