Vol. 230 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Achill Pier Facilities.

7.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what is the present position regarding the provision of suitable landing facilities for the fishermen at Darby's Point Pier, Achill, County Mayo.

Darby's Point is one of the many places being examined at present by the survey team which I set up to make an up-to-date appraisal of landing facilities required on the coasts of counties Mayo and Galway in the interests of the sea fishing industry. The team visited Darby's Point on 22nd June but has other areas to visit before it can prepare its report. Until I receive and consider the team's report, I cannot say what the outcome may be.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that for the past 25 or 30 years, prior to every election, this job was supposed to be undertaken?

I am not so aware.

Would he have a word with the Minister for Justice on the matter?
