Vol. 230 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Reception.

23.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received recently complaints from subscribers in the Glanmire, County Cork area regarding continued poor reception on Telefís Éireann.

The answer is "no". I understand that the district in question is well served by the transposer at Crosshaven. If the Deputy has received complaints perhaps the viewers concerned have not yet had their aerials or sets adjusted to receive transmissions from Crosshaven instead of from Mullaghanish.

24.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that many holders of TV licences wish to get improved reception from UTV and BBC; and if he will try to arrange this and so provide better value to all holders of TV licences in this country.

The Oireachtas decided that a national television service should be provided by Radio Telefís Éireann and I do not conceive it to be my duty to arrange for improved reception of transmissions emanating outside the country.

25.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if work has yet commenced on the erection of a multi-channel TV aerial at Ballymun, Dublin; and when this will be operational.

Work has not yet commenced but I understand that the Authority will be placing a contract shortly and it expects that the service will be in operation in about four or five months time.
