Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick City Industries.

140.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether there are at present any proposals before his Department for the establishment of new industries at Limerick city; and, if so, if he will give details of these proposals.

I am aware of two proposals to establish new industries in Limerick city. Publicity has already been given to one of these. I am not in a position at this stage to give information about the other.

Could the Minister say if there is any proposal before his Department for the establishment of an industrial estate at Limerick?

There is no proposal for such before my Department.

May I take it that the Minister would be favourably disposed now towards a suggestion I made to him some months ago regarding the question of establishing an industrial estate in Limerick city and the possibility of having it brought under the jurisdiction of the Shannon Development Company? Has the Minister given that matter any further consideration?

The Deputy will be aware that our whole policy of industrial expansion is under review at the moment and such review does include consideration of the role of the Shannon Free Airport Development Company and whether or not its activities should be extended.

The Minister is aware——

Limerick is not being forgotten. I can assure the Deputy of that.
