Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Industry.

143.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has had, or proposes to have, a series of discussions and meetings with interested parties on the fostering, expansion, development and adaptation of industry; if trade unions, industrialists and members of the distributive trade are included in such discussions: and how many such meetings have been held since 26 July, 1967.

As announced in the press on 2nd August, 1967, I have arranged for a series of meetings with the Chairmen of adaptation councils, the leaders of the various sectors of industry, the Federation of Trade Associations and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, for the purpose mentioned in the question. I have, so far, had one meeting with the chairmen of the adaptation councils, one meeting with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and one meeting with the Federation of Irish Industries and the Federation of Trade Associations jointly. Arising out of this latter meeting there have been five further meetings in my Department.

The meetings with various sectors of industry are being arranged at present.
