Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Land Allotment.

56.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission propose to allot and subdivide the lands that they have on hands at Reelugaire, Glenbeigh and also at Caragh Bridge, County Kerry, as the lands at Reeluagaire have been held by them for over ten years.

Lands on hands of the Land Commission in the district referred to comprise numerous small units, containing some 100 acres with a rateable valuation of £12, which have been taken over by way of exchange and resumption on various dates from 1955 to as recently as last May. Proposals are at present being formulated for the disposal of these lands in a scheme for the re-arrangement and enlargement of a number of fragmented holdings in the area. A measure of agreement on the proposals has been reached with the tenants concerned and it is hoped to put the work in hands this coming spring.

I may say that previous attempts to utilise the bulk of these lands in the rearrangement of intermixed holdings were unsuccessful due to lack of co-operation by the parties involved.
