Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widow of Army NCO.

64.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that the widow of an ex-Sergeant-Major of the Defence Forces (name supplied) is not entitled to a pension or allowance; and if there is any way in which a pension or allowance can be paid to her.

There is no provision in any of the statutes administered by my Department whereby a pension or allowance could be paid to the widow referred to in the Deputy's question. She is, I understand, in receipt of a widow's (contributory) pension under the Social Welfare Acts.

Is it a fact that as the pension schemes are at present framed, widows of non-commissioned personnel are not entitled to benefit?

The widow of a non-commissioned officer or man is not entitled to receive an Army pension. This man was not in receipt of a disability pension.
