Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Retiring Age.

82.

asked the Minister for Finance if established civil servants who have completed 40 years' established service will now be permitted to retire, if they so desire, before reaching the age of 60.

The superannuation legislation applicable to the general classes of civil servants, teachers, local authority staffs and many other employments in the public sector allows retirement on pension after the age of 60. Under that age an employee may retire voluntarily on pension only on the ground of ill-health. No change in these provisions is at present being considered.
