Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Crumlin (Dublin) Garda Strength.

97.

asked the Minister for Justice the number and rank of gardaí in the Crumlin Garda district, Dublin, now and in 1950; and if he will state, having regard to the substantial increase in population in the area, what steps will be taken to increase the number of Garda personnel in the area.

The numbers and ranks of members of the Garda Síochána in Crumlin Garda District in 1950 were as follows: One superintendent, two inspectors, 12 sergeants and 57 gardaí, a total of 72. The present strength in the district is one superintendent, three inspectors, 19 sergeants and 77 gardaí, a total of 100.

On the basis of the available figures, the increase in Garda strength, which is 39 per cent, has in the period covered by the question, kept abreast of the increase in population, which is 35 per cent. No early change in the present Garda strength is contemplated.
