Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal School.

114.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the erection of a new school at Termon, Letterkenny, County Donegal; and when work is likely to commence.

Mr. O'Malley

The question of reorganisation of the primary school facilities in the parish of Termon, County Donegal, has been under consideration and it has been decided, as a first step, to amalgamate Lossett national school with the national school at Termon.

As the number of children in attendance at the amalgamated school would warrant a staff of two teachers only, it is not intended, in view of the policy in relation to small schools, to erect a new school building at Termon.

My Department have, however, sanctioned a grant towards the carrying out of improvements, including the provision of water-flushed sanitation, at the existing Termon national school, to make it serviceable for a further period pending some further reorganisation which will provide better educational facilities for the children of the area. The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to arrange to have these improvements carried out at the earliest possible date.
