Vol. 231 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - University Education for Teachers.

117.

asked the Minister for Education if he has any proposals before his Department for payment by way of loan or grant (a) for the full cost of university education for teachers and (b) for a teacher wanting to advance his studies.

The answer to both parts of the question is in the negative.

National school teachers may, subject to certain conditions being fulfilled, absent themselves from school duty to attend the university. Salary is paid in full during their absence provided that substitutes are employed at the teachers' own expense.
