Vol. 231 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - Import of Assembled Cars.

122.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the widespread uncertainty in the motor trade about the exact position arising from any decision to allow the import of fully assembled cars; and if he will clarify the matter.

123.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any interests in the motor assembly industry have been consulted on the repercussions on employment in the industry from any decision to allow the import of fully assembled cars.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions No. 122 and 123 together.

In reply to a question by the Deputy on 14th November, I informed him that I was not yet in a position to add to the information which I have already given. This is still the situation. I have already made it clear that I will make an announcement in the matter at the earliest appropriate moment.
