Vol. 231 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - Condition of Killarney Home.

135.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of the very bad structural condition of portion of St. Columbanus' Home, Killarney; the present position in relation to the proposed scheme to demolish this portion of the building and to construct a new extension; and the number of patients to be accommodated in the new extension.

Planning of the new unit which will replace a section of the accommodation at St. Columbanus' Home, Killarney, is now in the final stages and it is expected that it will be possible to invite tenders in January. The new ward unit will accommodate 50 male and 50 female patients.

Due to pressure on available accommodation at St. Columbanus' Home it will not be possible to demolish the section of the home which is to be replaced until the new accommodation is available.
