Vol. 231 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position of the proposed group water scheme at Boherbue, County Cork.

A number of separate schemes are proposed for the servicing of the Boherbue area. A scheme at Ballyhoulihan has been approved but I understand that the contractor has not yet commenced work. Schemes at Islandbrack and Tureen are at the design stage and will not be put in hands until the Ballyhoulihan scheme is under way.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the proposed group water scheme at Coolclough, Dromagh, Mallow, County Cork.

The revised plans submitted by the committee organising this scheme have been approved subject to minor alterations. The group have been advised to invite quotations for the different elements of the work.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in the extension of the Rathmore water supply scheme to Shinnagh, County Kerry, for which plans and documents were sent to his Department about eight weeks ago; and the present position regarding this extension.

The proposal of Kerry County Council for the extension of the Rathmore water supply to Shinnagh was received in my Department on 16th instant and is at present under examination.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange with Kerry County Council for the immediate relaying of the old water main from Oulagh, Caragh Lake to Ardmoniel, Killorglin; and if he will make the necessary grants and loans totalling £15,000 available for this service which is needed to allow the 350 member group water scheme at Caragh Lake, Cromane and adjoining areas to proceed.

I am informed by Kerry County Council that proposals are being considered for the relaying of portion of the old water main from Caragh Lake to Killorglin which would serve the Caragh Lake and Cromane group scheme.

There are no proposals before my Department in the matter.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each county in Ireland the number of proposals awaiting sanction in his Department for water and sewerage schemes; the total amount involved in each case; the dates on which proposals were received in his Department; and when he expects to sanction the various proposals.

The statistics requested by the Deputy are not readily available in my Department. Their compilation would involve an inordinate amount of time which would not be justified particularly having regard to the fact that county councils have recently been asked to review all their proposals with the object of identifying those schemes or sections of schemes which should receive priority.

How can the Minister say that a simple addition of the amounts of money involved and the number of projects awaiting sanction in his Department would involve an inordinate amount of work? Such questions have been asked many times over the years.

I have not been asked for a simple addition of the amounts involved. I have been asked would it involve a lot.

The total amount involved in each case and the dates on which proposals were received in his Department—there is not much work involved in that.

It would involve an inordinate amount of time.

The Minister's reply is quite untrue.
