Vol. 231 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - County Tipperary Estates.

45.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the Delahunty estate, formerly the Kickham Estate, Mullinahone, County Tipperary.

The Land Commission have had inquiries made about this property which is in two separate lots—96 acres in the townland of Ballydonnell and 96 acres in the townland of Ballydavid. It is understood that the lands have been sold locally to two purchasers and the Land Commission do not at present propose to take any action towards acquisition.

46.

asked the Minister for Lands if, in view of the fact that the purchaser of the Walsh estate, County Tipperary, already owned 800 acres of land, he will state why he was allowed to purchase these 215 acres.

47.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Walsh estate, Affane, Cappoquin, County Tipperary, first came to the notice of the Land Commission; and what steps were taken to acquire it.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Question Nos. 46 and 47 together.

The Walsh estate, comprising 215 acres in the townlands of Crinnaghtaun East and West, near Cappoquin, was first brought to the notice of the Land Commission in May, 1965, and inquiries were set up in train. On 25th October, 1966, following a report that the property had been sold, an inspection notice under the Land Act, 1965, was served on the owner. A few days later it was learned that a contract for the sale of the lands had been entered into on 19th October, 1966. The property was inspected in November, 1966, and proceedings for compulsory acquisition were instituted in January, 1967. These proceedings have reached the stage where objections lodged have been adjourned, after a public hearing on 19th July last, with a view to enabling the parties concerned to diccuss a compromise settlement.

48.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Moran estate, Pass, Clonmel, County Tipperary, will be allocated next spring.

The Land Commission are already in possession of an area of 50 acres on this Estate and proceedings for the acquisition of a further 88 acres have reached the stage where fixation of price is pending. Until such time as these proceedings are completed, it is not feasible to indicate when a composite scheme for the division of the entire 138 acres will be framed.
