Vol. 231 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - Income Tax Allowances.

62.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state approximately what it would cost the Exchequer to increase the tax free allowances for a single person (a) from £6 to £8 per week and (b) from £6 to £9 per week.

The increase at (a) would cost £10 million and the increase at (b) £14.2 million. Corresponding increases in the married and widowed allowances would in a full year result in additional total costs of the order of £4.3 million and £6.2 million respectively.
