Vol. 231 No. 11

Ceistenna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourism Promotion in North America.

1.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether Bord Fáilte have any plans to intensify their promotional work in North America and other non-devalued countries so as to ensure that the favourable opportunities for the Irish tourist industry presented by devaluation, will be fully exploited.

The sterling cost of Bord Fáilte's promotional work in countries which have not devalued has, of course, been increased by devaluation and the sums already provided for that purpose are, therefore, inadequate. Bord Fáilte are examining the additional cost involved and are also drawing up proposals for exploiting the position which has arisen since devaluation. These proposals will be examined when received.
