Vol. 232 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Housing.

73.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of applicants approved as in need of houses by Dún Laoghaire Corporation; and the number of new houses it is expected that the corporation will complete this year.

I understand from Dún Laoghaire Corporation that approximately 350 applicants have been approved by them for re-housing; that it is not possible, at this stage, to give a firm estimate of the number of dwellings which they will complete this year; that they hope to have work started at an early date on 122 dwellings; and that they have acquired sites and are preparing plans for an estimated 900 further dwellings.

74.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of applicants in the Rathdown, Dublin County Council area, who are considered in need of houses; and the total number of houses that the county council expect to complete in that area this year.

I understand from Dublin County Council that 558 applicants from the Rathdown area are considered by them to be in need of re-housing; that, while they are not in a position to give a firm estimate of the number of dwellings to be completed this year in this area, work is well advanced on 118 dwellings, and will be commenced shortly on another 28; that plans are being prepared for a 144-acre site at Carrickmines which they have acquired for general development, including housing; that a site for ten houses is being acquired at Shankill; and that efforts to acquire additional sites in the general area are being continued by them.
