Vol. 232 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tax Evasion.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the British tax authorities have sought the co-operation of his Department in their efforts to eliminate tax evasion by Irish nationals in Britain.

The answer is in the negative.

I put down the question because of a statement in the British House of Commons lately in relation to an examination into emigrants in Britain evading tax. The Minister assures me that there is no co-operation between the British Government and this Government to further harry emigrants who find it hard enough to live there?

It is a well-established principle of international behaviour that the revenue authorities of one country do not help the revenue authorities of another.
