Vol. 232 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - River Drainage.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance when work, which was promised to start this year, will start on the drainage of the Carrigahorig River, Nenagh, County Tipperary, which is classed as an intermediate river.

25.

asked the Minister for Finance if he can elaborate on previous replies concerning the draining of the Carrigahorig River, County Tipperary; when precisely this task will be undertaken; and when it will be completed.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 24 and 25 together.

It had been intended to commence work on this scheme a couple of years ago, but as I informed the Dáil in February, 1966, it is one of the schemes affected by the circumstances in which it was found necessary to postpone some capital works as explained in the White Paper on public capital expenditure. Because of the requirements of schemes in progress and schemes of higher priority in the arterial drainage programme I cannot yet say when funds can be made available for the Carrigahorig scheme. A start will be made as soon as the way is clear.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the drainage of the Groody River, County Limerick.

A drainage scheme for the Groody river has been prepared. Because of the requirements of schemes in progress and schemes of higher priority in the drainage programme, I cannot say when funds may be available for work. When the way is clear, the scheme will be exhibited in accordance with the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the drainage of the Mulcair catchment area, County Limerick.

Engineering and valuation surveys in this catchment area have been completed and the design of a scheme is in hands.
