Vol. 232 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Hospital Casualty Unit.

42.

asked the Minister for Health if his Department received proposals from Kerry County Council in connection with the erection of a casualty unit and an X-ray unit at the County Hospital; if so, on what date; if the proposals have been examined; and when approval is likely to be granted.

I have received proposals from Kerry County Council for the provision of a casualty unit and improved X-ray accommodation at the County Hospital and I have approved in principle of these proposals. However, certain matters of detail remain to be settled between the officials of my Department and the health authority. I expect these to be completed very soon and the work to go ahead.

Would the Minister hurry up these negotiations because at the moment the X-ray unit in the County Hospital is completely out of action and has been for the past fortnight, and Kerry County Council are depending solely on the nursing home in Tralee to carry out the X-rays required, and so forth?

I am most anxious to get both ahead as quickly as possible.
