The information available relates to the total gross freight earnings of Irish shipping companies from all activities except coastal trade as well as passenger receipts outside the State, less payments made outside the State in respect of operating expenses. The following table shows these net earnings for (i) Irish Shipping Limited and (ii) all Irish shipping companies for the years 1965 and 1966. Comparable figures for 1967 are not yet available. The increase shown for 1966 is largely due to the inclusion, for the first time, of the British and Irish Steampacket Company.
