Vol. 232 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to commence work on the Rossbrin, Ballydehob group water scheme, County Cork.

This scheme has been approved and work can commence as soon as suitable quotations for the scheme are received.

Is the Minister aware that efforts have been made to get this scheme under way for the past three years and that the urban housing association contributed £45 per house towards the cost three years ago? Is he further aware that many of the people, who have been waiting so long, are anxious to opt out of the scheme unless they get some starting date? This is about the sixth question I have raised in this House on this scheme during the past three years and surely the Minister must be aware that his responsibility is——

The Deputy may not make a speech.

It is not a speech: it is a question.

The Deputy has a specific question down. We cannot debate the full scheme during Question Time.

I am asking the Minister if he is aware of the unrest and the uneasiness existing amongst the 45 householders who constitute this particular scheme due to the behaviour of the Department over the past three years in withholding the moneys available for this work? Is he further aware that in view of the incentive bonus on certain grading of milk, there is a big loss to farmers? What I want to know is when the scheme will commence? Give the date, whether it be April, May, June or July. Surely the Minister is aware that people want to opt out?

As soon as they obtain the suitable quotation.

When is that?

As soon as they get it.

Is that not your business?

It is not.

I am calling the next question.

Wait a minute. I want to ask another question on this. I will be raising this on the Adjournment.

Deputy Murphy will please resume his seat and allow Questions to continue.

I am entitled to ask a question. This is not the first time the Chair has tried to prevent me from exercising my rights here. I shall not be cowed.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Killarney main sewerage scheme; and if he will speed up the implementation of this scheme.

I am informed by Killarney Urban District Council that revised preliminary proposals for the Killarney main drainage scheme are in course of preparation.
