Vol. 232 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Castle Reconstruction.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance when the current works at Dublin Castle will be completed; the date of their commencement; their total cost; and the accommodation provided.

The building work in progress at the State Apartments, Dublin Castle, began in October, 1964 and is expected to be completed by July next.

The work consists of the reconstruction of that part of the reception area which was destroyed by accidental fire in 1941 and of an adjoining block and the Main Entrance Block both of which had become structurally unsound. The work is estimated to cost £400,000. The accommodation being provided includes, on the ground floor, cloakrooms and circulation space for use during State functions; on the first floor, drawingrooms which will also be used for State functions, and on the second floor, offices for Civil Service staffs.
