Vol. 232 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closure of Kerry School.

33.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the parents of the children attending Cloundouglas school, Lixnaw, County Kerry are very perturbed at the suggested closing of this school; and whether he will give an assurance that this will not take place.

Mr. O'Malley

The existing school at Cloundouglas is in need of replacement. The necessity for its replacement brought up for consideration the question of making the best possible provision for the education of the children in the area. All aspects of the matter having been considered it was decided that the educational interests of the children demanded that Cloundouglas school should be closed and that transport be provided for them to the larger schools in Lixnaw and Drumclough. This arrangement will come into effect as from 1st July next.

I have no doubt that the educational benefits of what is proposed will be evident to the parents.
