Vol. 233 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Chairman of Bord na Móna.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the salary conditions and terms of appointment of the Chairman of Bord na Móna; and if he will consider making this a full-time office.

The remuneration of the part-time Chairman of Bord na Móna is £750 a year.

The conditions of his appointment are as follows:—

(a) he shall receive no remuneration in respect of any other services performed by him for or on behalf of Bord na Móna other than that as Chairman and member of the Board save with my consent and the consent of the Minister for Finance;

(b) he shall devote to the performance of his duties as a member and Chairman so much of his time as may be necessary for the proper and efficient discharge by him of those duties;

(c) he shall be paid in respect of journeys undertaken to attend meetings of the Board or to transact the business of the Board, such travelling expenses and subsistence allowances as are appropriate to a Civil Servant of the highest grade.

Bord na Móna has a full-time managing director who is both chief executive and a member of the Board. I do not consider there is any need to make the post of Chairman a full-time appointment.
