Vol. 233 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

6.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department have received proposals from Kerry County Council for the provision of sewerage facilities for a group scheme of houses erected at Dirrha, Listowel, some years ago; and, if so, the present position of the proposals.

A proposal for a sewerage extension to Derra East, Listowel, was submitted to my Department by Kerry County Council on 18th April, 1967. Having regard to the relatively high cost involved the council were asked on 15th May, 1967, for additional information to enable the proposal to be further considered. This information is awaited.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department have received proposals from Kerry County Council to extend sewerage facilities to Tonbwee, Castleisland, to accommodate the many houses erected in that district over the past few years; and, if so, when work is likely to commence on the extension.

Preliminary proposals for this scheme were approved by me on 22nd August, 1967, and I understand that contract documents are being prepared by the council. I am not in a position to say when work is likely to commence.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the £50,000 estimated to cover the cost of the revised piped water scheme for the Ardfert district, County Kerry, will be allocated in the coming financial year to implement the scheme.

As I informed the Deputy in a reply to a previous question, a decision on the Ardfert regional water supply scheme must await the outcome of the review of regional schemes which is at present being carried out by sanitary authorities generally throughout the country.

I am not at present in a position to say what allocation, if any, may be made towards the financing of the scheme in the coming financial year.
