Vol. 233 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lifts in Ballymun Flats.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of continuing complaints of the inoperability at frequent intervals of the lift system in the Baliymun flats, Dublin; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this situation.

I am aware of the complaints in relation to the effective operation of the lifts in the Ballymun flats. The matter was investigated recently by the contractors and a detailed report was prepared on the nature and frequency of the faults arising in the period August-December, 1967. The report indicated that the failures and difficulties arose mainly from abuse of the lifts, including the wedging of articles between the car and the frame, obscuring the lamp projector which controls the door closure, damage to switches, push buttons, doors, etc. It is understood that in most cases children are the cause of the failures.

The matter is one primarily for the corporation who are in consultation with the Agency and the contractors.

Question No. 41 postponed.
