Vol. 233 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Coast Protection.

52.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to a resolution passed unanimously by Donegal County Council to have urgent works carried out at River Row, Moville, under the Coast Protection Act, 1963; and what steps he proposes to take to have this work carried out immediately.

As I stated in reply to a question by Deputy Cunningham on 21st February this is one of the proposals, consideration of which had to be deferred because of the financial situation. I cannot yet say when it may proceed.

No doubt Deputy Cunningham has brought to the Parliamentary Secretary's attention the damage done at Lisfannon, County Donegal, and I should like to ask the Parliamentary Secretary if he is going to sit down and do nothing in the case of River Row, Moville, where lives are at stake?

I think that was a speech.

I am asking the Parliamentary Secretary if he appreciates the gravity of this?

Would he do something about it? Money was voted to this section two years ago and it was not spent. When will it be spent?

If Deputy Harte would have a look at last year's Book of Estimates in connection with coast erosion, he would know enough to see that it was not necessary to put down this question this year.

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, I give notice that I wish to raise this matter on the Adjournment.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
