Vol. 233 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Company's Industrial Relations.

52.

andMr. Coughlan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will outline the steps taken by him following his meeting with the Irish Congress of Trade Union delegates last October on the situation in a company (name supplied).

The meeting referred to was called for the purpose of discussing general questions relating to industrial development in this country. The ICTU representatives raised certain questions regarding industrial relations in this company but were not given any indication that any particular steps were to be taken in the matter.

Is it a fact that an undertaking was given that the Minister would use his good offices with the company involved and see to it that they permitted trade union organisation of their employees?

No, that is not correct.

Does the Minister in general say that it is a good thing for our industrial development that foreign industrialists should be in a position to disregard or be allowed to disregard the legislation of this country?

That is a separate question.

The Deputy is aware of the fact that the Minister has not said any such thing.
