Vol. 233 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manpower Surveys.

44.

asked the Minister for Labour what facilities are available to his Department for the carrying out of manpower surveys.

45.

asked the Minister for Labour whether his Department have any plans for carrying out a manpower survey in the Limerick region.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 44 and 45 together. A team comprising a sociologist and a number of social science graduates were specially recruited last year to carry out manpower surveys in Waterford and Galway in connection with the development of industrial estates in these areas.

These specialist resources are fully committed, and will be for some time to come, on these two surveys. It would not be possible, therefore, to undertake surveys in other regions in the near future.

I propose to await the completion of the regional surveys being carried out for physical planning purposes on behalf of the Minister for Local Government before taking a decision on the question of further surveys.
