Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Computer Science Courses.

63.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the future of all computer engineering and electronic engineering departments in Trinity College, Dublin, which in addition to undergraduate courses also provide post-graduate courses in specialised computer science.

Plans for the allocation of teaching functions between University College, Dublin, and Trinity College within a single University of Dublin have been put forward by representatives of both Colleges in negotiations with my Department. These plans, together with variations on each suggested by my predecessor, are now under consideration by the Governing Bodies of both Colleges, which have been requested to express their views on all of them.

When the views of the Governing Bodies have been conveyed to me, the negotiations will proceed. Pending their conclusions, I am not in a position to make a statement with regard to the future of any particular department or departments in either College.
