Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Role of Chemists in New Health Scheme.

84.

asked the Minister for Health if he has concluded arrangements with the chemists with regard to their role in the new health scheme.

There have been discussions with the Irish Pharmaceutical and Allied Industries Association, representing manufacturers and manufacturers' agents; with the Wholesale Drug Federation, representing the wholesalers, and with a Joint Negotiating Committee of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland and the Irish Drug Association representing the retail pharmacists.

The Irish Pharmaceutical and Allied Industries Association and the Wholesale Drug Federation have made certain proposals dealing with the supply of drugs and medicines under the proposed new general medical service and these are being examined in my Department.

The discussions with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland and the Irish Drug Association have not yet been concluded. The Joint Negotiating Committee are examining considerations discussed at a recent meeting in my Department and I hope to hear from them soon.
