Vol. 233 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ophthalmic Treatment in Kerry.

87.

asked the Minister for Health the number of people on the waiting list for the local authority ophthalmic surgeon in Tralee, County Kerry; and what steps he will take to improve the situation there.

There are at present 223 adults and 134 children awaiting ophthalmic examination at Tralee.

Arrangements were made by the health authority to secure the parttime services of two other ophthalmic surgeons to help reduce the waiting lists. One of these ophthalmic surgeons held clinics in Listowel for a limited period and it is hoped that the other will shortly begin to hold clinics in Killarney. This should enable the county ophthalmic surgeon to concentrate on holding clinics in Tralee and so reduce the waiting list there.
