With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 27, 28, 29 and 30 together.
Returning officers are required under Article 75 (3) of the Local Elections Regulations, 1965, to give public notice of the names and descriptions of the candidates elected for each electoral area and also, in the case of a contested election, of the total number of votes given for each candidate, whether elected or not, of any transfer of votes, of the total number of votes credited to each candidate at the end of the count at which such transfer took place and the order in which the candidates were elected. A copy of the notice must, also, by law, be sent to each person elected and to me.
Prior to the 1967 local elections, a suggested draft of a form for giving the required statutory notice was supplied by my Department to each returning officer. A copy of this form has been placed in the Library. No other form relating to the elections was issued to returning officers for completion and return to my Department.
