Vol. 234 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Malicious Injury Claim.

33.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to a report concerning a malicious injury claim against Sligo County Council; if he will make a statement on the matter, bearing in mind that the injured party had already been compensated by the insurance company involved; and if he will have the criminal injury code amended so that a local authority may not in effect become a collector for an insurance company.

My Department has been in correspondence with Sligo County Council in connection with the matter referred to by the Deputy. I hope to introduce before the Summer recess a Bill to consolidate, amend and reform the law relating to compensation for malicious injuries. This will give Deputies an opportunity of discussing every aspect of the law.
