Vol. 234 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grand Canal.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that large quantities of weeds and slime now cover the Grand Canal at Harold's Cross bridge, Dublin and elsewhere; and when the next regular dredging of the canal will take place.

I am informed by CIE that there is a small quantity of scum on the Grand Canal in the vicinity of Harold's Cross. This will be removed and weeds will be cut in the course of the normal annual cleaning programme which is due to commence next month.

The last dredging of the city section of the canal took place in January last and it is not anticipated that further dredging will be required before the end of the year.
