Vol. 234 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allowances for Spinsters.

57.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give consideration to the payment of an allowance to spinsters on reaching a certain age in view of the fact that, while not disabled, many of them have no social insurance coverage and do not qualify for either national or local assistance.

Spinsters who are unable to provide for themselves by their own efforts are covered in one way or another by existing schemes of social assistance and special arrangements for them are not contemplated.

Would the Minister say what schemes cover them?

Schemes of social assistance and special allowances.

They are not eligible for these at all.

They are, where they are qualified.
