Vol. 234 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment for Reactor Cattle.

9.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will expedite payment for reactor animals under the Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Scheme in view of the fact that there is at present a delay of up to three months.

There is no avoidable delay in making payment for reactor cattle under the Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Scheme. Payment has issued for every reactor collected up to 31st March.

Does the Minister not agree that there are at least some cases where the delay can be up to three months?

There may be some cases but I should imagine that there must be some exceptional circumstances connected with them. In the normal run, the delay is about three weeks.

And I suppose the person who approached me was the abnormal case?

It is usually the abnormal ones that make the approaches.

Will the Minister endeavour to pay as quickly as he can?

Very much so.
