Vol. 234 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tractor Crash-Bars.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps, if necessary by the introduction of legislation, to ensure that all tractors using public roads are fitted with a crash-bar to protect the driver in the event of the vehicle overturning.

Under section 11 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, equipment for vehicles used in a public place may be prescribed by regulation and the question of prescribing a crash-bar or safety frame to protect the driver in the event of a tractor overturning is at present being examined by my Department.

Could the Minister say when he thinks this examination will be completed?

Very shortly.
